“I Still Want to Become a Doctor”: Seleina’s Brave Fight to Reclaim Her Childhood

In the vast, open lands of Kimintet Ward, where red soil meets the sky and children’s laughter echoes between hills, a young girl named Seleina once ran joyfully to school. With her books clutched tightly to her chest and her head full of dreams, she imagined a future as a doctor — someone who would one day heal others, bring comfort, and make her family proud.

But her journey was interrupted far too soon.

At just ten years old, Seleina’s life was turned upside down by circumstances no child should ever face. She became a mother when she was still a child herself. The classroom that once symbolized hope became a memory, as she left school to care for her baby — navigating life not with textbooks and playmates, but with burdens she was never meant to carry.

Even then, Seleina didn’t give up.

While many would have been broken by such hardship, Seleina held on to the fragile thread of hope that one day she would return to school. She still whispered her dream in the quiet moments:

“I still want to become a doctor,” she says, eyes filled with both pain and determination.

Sadly, her challenges didn’t end there. At home, the support she needed was missing. Her father, weighed down by his own struggles, became a source of fear instead of protection. When he tried to force Seleina into an early marriage with a much older man, it felt like the final blow — a child being handed away instead of lifted up.

But this time, the community said no.

Rev. Ole Ngotiek, the area chief, stepped in with strength and compassion. His voice joined others in saying that Seleina deserved more — not just survival, but a future. Through his intervention and the support of the local administration, the marriage was stopped and Seleina was rescued from a life she never chose.

Today, Seleina is safe. But not yet whole.

She still lives in a fragile environment. Her education remains paused. Her child depends on her. And while her spirit remains strong, she needs help to truly rise.

Why Seleina’s Story Matters

Selina’s story is not just about pain — it’s about potential. It’s about how easily a child’s future can be taken, and how powerfully a community can step in to restore it.

It reminds us that behind every statistic is a girl with dreams. A girl like Seleina, who still believes that becoming a doctor is possible — not just for herself, but for the many others who may come after her.

How You Can Help Seleina Rebuild Her Life

Seleina needs:

  • School fees and materials to return to class

  • Counseling and emotional support to help her heal

  • A safe space for her and her baby

  • Mentorship and love from those who believe in second chances

Your kindness, your prayers, your contribution — however small — can make a lifetime of difference for this one brave girl.
